Okay I’ll give up on the terrible ‘puns’ and jokes now, but as you can see, the ‘Year of the Snake’ DLC has some interesting sections, and certainly the missions focusing towards working as a ‘regular’ police officer add the notion back that Wei Shen is actually a cop, which is perhaps lost come the end of the main storyline, as you never actually feel like one that much… Car shooting missions still remain, which I personally enjoy and find satisfying to just keep blowing up enemies:Īlso I don’t think there is any other time in this game, or any other for that matter, that you can beat someone with a protestor’s picket board, which is right up there with using a fish… MAYBE in ‘State of Emergency’ from years ago on the Playstation 2…ĪI drivers are still more than happy to plow you down and run over your face though…įinally, I shall end this ‘brief’ but colourful post on a note about the graphics. Not the sort of plaice he wants to be hanging around in… Things also get a little brutal as events unfold, especially at the fish factory… That’s one way to fry ’em! For example, bombs are placed under cars, and you must find and dispose of them (in the sea) before they can explode: Needless to say, they are in fact a bunch of crackpots and it is falls to Wei Shen to bring the down. Soon a rift of bombings begin to occur across the various districts, and it then becomes apparent that those responsible are cultists who believe that with the Chinese New Year, the World will end and therefore in fact what they are trying to do is righteous and will earn them a place in Heaven.
It is not long, though, before Wei Shen must give chase and arrest a group of perpetrators… However this is where things aren’t all what they seem. For this, he is put on duty on the streets, seen writing out a parking ticket, for example: Following on from the end of the main storyline, it is nearly Chinese New Year and Wei Shen is being penalised for his reckless and lawless behaviour undercover with the Sun On Yee Triads. The other main DLC available to buy for Sleeping Dogs is the ‘Year of the Snake’. Needless to say, it is a a fresh direction from the main storyline and offers difference from rivals such as Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row, whilst still remaining true to the Hong Kong setting – A must buy if you own Sleeping Dogs! Short story even shorter, you must ultimately wipe out the demon ‘Smiley Cat’ to save your girlfriend, which involves obtaining and utilising magical powers to do so.
Anyway, it revolves around the ‘Jiang Shi’, also known as Chinese ‘hopping’ vampires or zombies, and other demons and ghosts come back to haunt Wei Shen. So rather than wait until the end of the game to complete this, go for it around half-way through your other fighting skills being completed, as the Zodiac Tournament ones could come in handy!įollowing this DLC, I also completed the ‘Nightmare in Northpoint’ and ‘Year of the Snake’ storylines… Unfortunately I completely forgot to take any screenshots during the former, as I was just running around madly whilst I completed it. Handily, during this tournament Wei Shen is able to collect 10 different ‘Fire Opal Statues’ which grant him the ability to perform more varied and more powerful fighting skills and moves from various different disciplines and arts. If you have never seen ‘Enter the Dragon’ with Bruce Lee as the lead, then I urge you to go and do so right away if you have played and enjoyed this DLC! This time, however, Wei Shen must “become the dragon”!
Funded by a very wealthy man and bet on by very wealthy people, this may sound like a peculiarly familiar setting to some. With grainy film effect in full swing throughout, Wei Shen makes his way on to the secluded island to enter a martial arts tournament for “the best of the best of the best” fighters from around the World. I personally found the game to imitate the kung-fu-undercover-cop film genre fairly well, and one certain DLC pack in particular – ‘The Zodiac Tournament’ – realises this in a near-satirical manner, as you can see below at the beginning of this mission: Without spoiling the main storyline, whilst it is fairly flat and serious compared to other open-world games, as often reviews have pointed out, it does have its little quirks and jokes, especially when you add some DLC into the mix.
